About us

The Blokes Guild (B.G.) is a voluntary association of blokes and students, which is not specific to any jurisdiction in the United Kingdom. The BG's most important non-controversial activities are the setting of drinking standards for public houses, and the formulation of model legal codes, of which the most important is a code of ethical standards for Blokes. The Blokes Code of Professional Responsibility (1963) and/or the newer Model Rules of Professional Drinking & Conduct (1980) have been adopted in all counties and the Houses of Parliament.

The guild was originally established by Brewers and noble men who would meet at the Haworth Arms soon after it was built circa 1774 Meetings would regularly take place regarding bloke like issues and the advancement of mankind and alcohol. This led to the creation of the Blokes Guild©.

The Haworth has been used ever since and is regarded as the associations Headquarters.

According to the BG, it "provides Blokes accreditation and continuing education programs to assist Blokes in their work (i.e. any Bloke-like duties), and initiatives to improve public houses and the quality of alcohol. The Mission of the Blokes Guild is to be the national representative of the Blokes profession, serving the public and the profession by promoting justice, professional excellence and respect for fellow blokes."

The Guild publishes a general magazine for all members BRAS (The ‘Beverley Road Alcoholic Society), and a yearly document, the Blokes Almanac. BG members may also join specific "Divisions," which also hold their own meetings. A fraternity (Beta Kappa Sigma) was also established to further the aims of the association.

The BG has a House of Delegates which acts as the organisation's primary body for adopting new policies and recommendations as part of the association's official position. The House of Delegates regularly meets in the Haworth Arms public house in Kingston-upon-Hull.
